Just announced, a judge in New Mexico (about the only state left that has no law either permitting or banning gay marriage) has ruled that their most populous county (where Albuquerque is located) must begin issuing same-sex marriage licenses IMMEDIATELY on the basis of the state constitution’s guarantee of equality for all citizens. The county clerk says she’s already printed up 1000 licenses in anticipation of the order, and will begin issuing them at 8 AM local time tomorrow (Tuesday). Per the Rachel Maddow Show, she just broke in to announce it, will update this with links momentarily. HUZZAH EQUALITY!
(To clarify for those who haven’t been following it, a couple of clerks started issuing licenses on their own last week but were ordered to stop pending review. This judge looked at it & said “issue them.”)
