Why its so important that the Phantom is given a last name? Why does he need one?

Yeah. Not having a last name is cool. Like Madonna or Prince or Cher or Sting or The Doctor.

And all these years I thought his name was Erik the Phantom. I feel mislead.

And here I am thinking “Erik” is just an alias he picked at random.

He should have picked “Cher.”

The Phantom can’t be “Chéri” because he is anything but loved by the end.
