Okay, even though it was a while ago, I just have to talk about the production of Les Miserables I saw a week ago. Specifically, Grantaire’s part in the final battle.
So, Grantaire had previously spent all the previous confrontations at the barricade weaponless and hiding behind part of the barricade. But during the final assault on the barricade, noticing how Enjolras is at the very top of the barricade, easily exposed, he grabs a rifle and climbs up onto the barricade next to Enjolras and begins firing on the National Guard.
After a couple moments of this, a volley hits both Enjolras and Grantaire, wounding them. Grantaire then staggers over to where Enjolras is and grabs onto him as he tries not to collapse. At this point, Enjolras has his back to the barricade and Grantaire is clinging onto him as he tries to keep them both upright. (I’m still not 100% sure they didn’t kiss at this point - their faces were very close)
Then another volley hits Enjolras in the back and he collapses, taking Grantaire with him. Grantaire realizes that Enjolras is dead, grabs Enjolras’ rifle, stands up at the very top of the barricade, and hoists the rifle in the air in that classic Enjolrasian One-Day-More gesture, one hand still on Enjolras’ shoulder. He stays in that positions for a second or two before being fatally hit by another volley, whereupon he collapses on top of Enjolras; head on Enjolras’ shoulder, one arm across his chest as though trying to protect him.
Needless to say, I sobbed.
i’m not sure i can feel things right now because the alternative is a full out melodramatic bed flop and tears
but i desperately need to know what production this is.
